Walk in the footsteps of men named General Knox and George Washington. See where some of America's first dutch farmers staked their claims in the new world. Find out where the Pluckemin Cantonment existed. It's all here in Bedminster, New Jersey, just off Routes 78 and 287 in Somerset County.
Bedminster Township has four (4) parks and a small recreation area totaling approximately 34 acres for active recreation near and around the Jacobus Vanderveer House property. Some features includes baseball/softball & soccer/lacrosse fields, dog parks, basketball & volleyball courts, bocce, playgrounds, and picnic facilities. In addition, we have a scenic paved Hike & Bike trail which currently connects the Village Area of Bedminster to The Hills housing development, with plans to extend the trail in the future.
HIKE & BIKE TRAIL
Start by Parking in the Vanderveer House parking lot. View the beautifully restored Colonial era farmstead and take a self guided tour around the Vanderveer House grounds.
To the South
Walk south through River Road Park and look for the brown steel walkway on the left. This crosses over Routes 202/206 to the site of the Pluckemin Cantonment. The first Vanderveer homestead was also located near here (where the North Branch of the Raritan River crosses Route 202).
To the North
The grave site for General Knox’s daughter Julia is just to the north of the Vanderveer property in the Bedminster Reformed Church Cemetery, approximately 1/8 of a mile.
Parking and access to the trail is also available just to the South of the JVH House at River Road Park.
