15th Annual Colonial Christmas School Group Tour Day
Friday, December 1 – 10 am to 3 pm
Each year, we invite students in Grades 3 and above to experience 18th century Dutch-Colonial life during the holidays and get a hands-on history lesson about the American Revolution. Students will be introduced to a re-enactor portraying a historical figure such as George Washington or Benjamin Franklin, who will discuss their role in the development of our fledgling government. Students will learn popular games played by colonial American children, and make a toy of their own. They will also get a tour of the 1772 Jacobus Vanderveer House — once the headquarters of General Henry Knox during the winter of 1778-79 — and the only surviving building associated with the Pluckemin Artillery Cantonment, America’s first military training academy. The Vanderveer House will be completely decorated in the Colonial period for the holidays and docents and re-enactors will be on hand to educate and entertain pint-size patriots!
